The follow species all have red palm as one of their common names and I have no idea which of them are represented on this page unless specifically listed.
my samples: NOTE: these pics were all taken in very bright incandescent lighting --- colors will vary under other lighting conditions
colors are accurate throughout. From here down to the formal samples, these were all bought at the same time from one vendor and were not identified botanically so given that omission and given the color, I am not 100% convinced that these are actually red palm and not black palm but I list them here as what they were stated to be.

both sides of a sample plank of coconut palm / Cocos nucifera --- HUGE enlargements are present. This sample was loaned to me by David Clark whom I thank for this and other contributions to the site.
end grain and end grain closeup of the piece directly above --- this is SUCH a physically light wood that the saw just crushed the end grain (and this one is even worse than the sample directly above this)
END GRAIN UPDATE from directly above --- note how this gives a particularly clear picture of the individual strands in this wood.
both sides of a sample plank of red palm / Acanthophoenix rubra --- HUGE enlargements are present. This sample was loaned to me by David Clark whom I thank for this and other contributions to the site. The unlabeled side is covered in wax.

NOT a raw wood color sample plank, with a finishing agent, shot in a woodworking store. HUGE enlargements are present. Although labeled only as palm, this looks more like red than black, AND this store only sold red palm.

veneer listed as red palm / Cocos nucifera --- I note that (1) this pic is identical to one that I found on another site listed as a plank and (2) I've never otherwise seen this wood listed as a veneer. SO ... I'm dubious about this actually being a veneer.
